It was the spring of 1987 when I was first exposed to the magic of the Electric Maze. I was attending a workshop at the Pecos River Learning Center located outside Santa Fe, New Mexico in the Pecos wilderness. The moment I saw it and experienced it, I sensed incredible potential. My primary work is as a facilitator and trainer, working primarily with senior executives in private, public and not-for-profit corporations on four continents. It was the late 1980's when I got my first glimpse of the Electric Maze and it was 'love at first sight.' A number of things attracted me: the maze was understated, yet elegant with its black and grey color. "My A-maze-n' Journey" by Alonzo Johnson, Ph.D.
I was first introduced to the Electric Maze in 1994 while working as Assistant Professor of Quality Systems at a community college. I taught academic classes and provided learning and development consulting services to local businesses. My relationship with the Electric Maze preceded the profound business relationship I have now with its inventor. The college owned the first version of the maze (EM1). The maze quickly became my learning tool of choice inside and outside the classroom. "John's Story" by John Dicus, Co-founder and Management Consultant, Cornerstone Consulting Associates
I like to use the Electric Maze whenever possible because it has an almost magical ability to both highlight and transform the characteristic behavior of a group of participants. The Maze consists of a 6' x 8' industrial carpet, printed with an array of squares. Each square overlays pressure sensitive switches wired to a control box. The maze is not large, yet when you participate in a group Maze activity, the carpet grid feels significantly larger.
